Philip Playfair, Founder of Lowfoot, joined SURGE on the premise that the deregulated electricity market along with the world's largest smart meter installation in Texas could jumpstart Lowfoot's business. Philip already had some initial traction in Canada, and SURGE helped connect Lowfoot to Retail Electricity Providers in Texas, many of whom signed on as initial customers. SURGE also helped Lowfoot recruit new members of the management team and close a large equity round, launching Lowfoot as the global provider of web-based analytics for smart meters.
When Molecule applied to join SURGE’s inaugural class, Sameer Soleja, Founder and CEO, was armed only with an idea for a new approach to energy trading and risk management (ETRM) software. SURGE helped Sameer develop relationships within the ETRM space, and Molecule interviewed more than 200 prospective customers to assess market opportunity. Molecule was able to move from concept to initial product in less than 1 year by rapidly assimilating customer feedback and guidance from SURGE mentors. They are currently funded.
Reid and Charlie, the Co-Founders of RunTitle, both worked as landmen for a few years before they decided to revolutionize the industry. They created the world's first comprehensive online database of mineral ownership reports and acreage information. As first-time entrepreneurs, they joined SURGE to receive crucial mentorship and develop deep relationships with industry leaders and partners. Only 3 months after SURGE Demo Day, RunTitle announced the close of their $4M Series A.
